Charities Missing Out on Billions in NSW

Only 14% of NSW’s 1.2 million people aged over 60 have made the move to leave money to charity in their Wills despite being lifelong donors.

With 1.2 million people aged 60 years or older in NSW, a bequest of $5000 from each would mean $6 billion available to charities over the next thirty years.  This equates to $200 million per year.

“As you retire or your circumstances change there is no greater time to update your Will and at the same time remember the charities you have supported all your life”, says Jennifer Doubell of award winning* charity consortium group, Include a Charity.

As the largest source of income for many charities, bequests represent an efficient method of continuing to support those organisations that have assisted you or your loved ones throughout your lifetime. Leaving a bequest is not about depriving your family or friends, it is a way to ensure charities will be there to support future generations.

This NSW Seniors Week (6th-13th April), Include a Charity would like to offer all those over 60 a challenge – to further affirm their relationships with their chosen charities and consider including a bequest to them in their Will.

To check the health of your Will Include a Charity has developed an online Will health check. Simply log on to www.includeacharity.com.au and fill out the quiz, to find out what shape your Will is in.
