Melbourne Business School (Est. 1954) is a not-for-profit, tertiary education institution serving the learning, teaching and research needs of business (not-for-profit and for-profit) and government for Australia and the international community. Jointly owned and operated by the Australian business community (55%) and the University of Melbourne (45%), the School is one of the leading academic and executive education institutions of its kind in the Asia Pacific region, and has over 1,000 full-time and part-time post-graduate students (e.g. Master of Business Administration, Executive Master of Business Administration, Master of Marketing, Graduate Certificate of Social Impact etc).
The School is committed to making a positive difference to communities by nurturing leaders who make business and operational decisions that are ethically and morally reasoned, and create value chains into society for positive and sustained social impact. To support this commitment, MBS is home to the Centre for Ethical Leadership (including the Vincent Fairfax Fellowship), and the Asia Pacific Social Impact Leadership Centre, established through a generous donation from the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust. Both Centres rely on continued financial and volunteer support by alumni and affiliate donations.
Beyond the Centres, the School needs continued support to endow scholarships, student internships in not-for-profit organisations, professorial chairs, world-class research, and the upgrade of facilities.
These enable the School to benchmark and compete internationally, ensuring that Australia continues to educate and produce some of the world’s finest business and public sector minds and leaders.
As an ambitious not-for-profit with DGR status, the School looks to garner financial support from its alumni, friends and affiliates. It does this through a number of means, but like the organisers of the Include a Charity campaign, MBS recognises that Australian’s can do more to contribute to the nation’s health, environmental, community, sustainability and educational needs by including proactive not-for-profit and charitable organisations in their wills.
