Spinal Cord Injuries Australia

Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (SCIA) is a not-for-profit organisation working for people living with spinal cord injury (SCI) and other physical disabilities. We were founded by people with spinal cord injury over fifty years ago; people with disability make up over 20% of our staff, and the majority of our Board live with spinal cord injury.

We are extremely thankful for those who have chosen to leave a gift in their Wills to SCIA. This generosity has enabled us to support both families and individuals throughout their life journey as a result of spinal cord injury and other types of neurological and physical disabilities.

Gifts in Wills, no matter how large or small, play a major role in the ongoing funding of the vital services we provide, aimed to increase independence, mobility and confidence for people who otherwise would have nowhere else to turn.

By leaving a gift in your Will to SCIA, you are showing your commitment to ensure people who are affected by a spinal cord injury and other neurological and physical disabilities, will not be isolated and can receive the help and support that is so valuable for them and desperately needed.

HOW TO INCLUDE A GIFT IN YOUR WILL

Explain your wishes to your family and executor and decide on the type of gift you would like to include. We always recommend that you seek advice from a solicitor when preparing or updating your Will, so that you understand and receive the most up to date information and use the correct wording for leaving a Gift to SCIA.

For further information on the types of gifts and suggested wording, please visit our Gifts in Wills webpage at www.scia.org.au/support-us/leave-a-gift-in-your-will

Please contact our Gifts in Wills Manager, Pauline Keyvar on 1800 819 775 if you have any questions or if you would like any assistance about including a gift in your Will.

Testimonial from Alf who experienced a devastating life changing spinal cord injury in 2015:

“I have left the house in my Will to SCIA (Spinal Cord Injury Australia) so that it can benefit other people who has experienced an accident or spinal cord injury.” He continued “I met people at the Fiona Stanley who haven’t been as lucky as me and don’t have enough money to build a place like this, their future is so uncertain.  My home is a little bit of heaven.”
