Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania

Every year in Tasmania, people from migrant and refugee backgrounds arrive seeking safety, stability and a chance to rebuild their lives. Many arrive with limited English, no local support networks, unfamiliarity with Australian systems, and the lasting effects of displacement and trauma. Without timely, culturally appropriate support, people can quickly become isolated, overwhelmed and left behind.

For more than 45 years, Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania (MRC Tas) has been there at this critical moment.

Established in 1979, MRC Tas is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting migrants, humanitarian entrants and refugees to settle, recover and thrive. We provide practical assistance when it matters most – helping people secure housing, access healthcare, find employment, support their children, care for their mental health, and build the confidence to participate fully in their new community.

The need for our services continues to grow. Settlement pathways are increasingly complex, the cost of living places pressure on newly arrived families, and many people we support are navigating profound trauma while trying to establish stability. Demand often exceeds available funding, meaning some programs, activities, and supports can only exist through the generosity of donors.

This is where your gift can make a powerful difference.

Gifts left to MRC Tas in wills provide stable, long-term funding that allows us to respond where the need is greatest – not just today, but for generations to come. Your legacy can help fund specialist caseworkers, counselling and mental health support, employment pathways, youth and community programs, and culturally safe services for older people who would otherwise fall through the gaps.

A gift in your will is an act of welcome. It says that no one should have to start again alone. It ensures that when people arrive in Tasmania seeking a future, support is ready and waiting.

By choosing to leave a gift to MRC Tas, you help ensure that future generations of migrants and refugees receive the support, understanding and opportunities they need to build fulfilling lives and strong connections in our community. It is a powerful way to stand for inclusion, compassion and a fairer future for all.
