Act for Peace was founded in 1948, by the then Australian Council for the World Council of Churches, to provide urgently needed aid to refugees and others suffering in Europe from the horrors of the Second World War. Since these humble beginnings, our work has expanded in both reach and impact.

We act to support uprooted people in their role as leaders, work in solidarity with long-term local partners, and collaborate with local, regional and global networks, alliances, academics, governments and the UN to achieve greater impact.

At the heart of our work is a powerful conviction: to create a just and peaceful society. Our work is grounded in evidence, and the knowledge and skills of our partners. We are committed to continuous learning and innovation in everything we do. Together, we’re working to reduce displacement and create safety, dignity and belonging for uprooted people and we’re doing this by backing displaced people through local partnerships and initiatives, building unity and transforming the system.

One of the most impactful ways you can support Act for Peace is by leaving a gift in your Will. By choosing to leave a legacy long into the future, you’re enabling Act for Peace to continue to work in partnership with communities around the world and create even more long-term, sustainable impact in the lives of people experiencing displacement around the world.

The programs and advocacy initiatives we support aim to ensure:

  • Uprooted people lead initiatives that help build a safe, permanent future.
  • Countries fairly share responsibility for supporting survivors of displacement.
  • Communities lead initiatives to reduce the impact of disasters and other displacement drivers.
  • Governments and the public take strong action to reduce conflict and climate-driven displacement.

No matter how big or small, your gift will help create a world where people uprooted by conflict or disaster have a safe place to belong. It only takes a moment to make a lifetime of difference and we are honoured that you would consider us in this important decision.
