Childhood Cancer Support

Childhood Cancer Support is the only Queensland charity providing a home-away-from-home for all regional, rural and remote children (0-18 years) who have a diagnosis of any form of childhood cancer. Founded in 1975 by a dedicated group of regional parents whose children were being treated in Brisbane with cancer, these parents realised there was an urgent need to provide a safe and family focussed accommodation environment for regional, rural and remote families whilst their child was undergoing life-saving cancer treatment at the children’s hospital in Brisbane.

Most families are rarely able to return home during their child’s cancer treatment period. By providing the families with free homely accommodation in our facilities at either Herston or South Brisbane the burden and related stress experienced by families during this critical time is reduced. In addition, Childhood Cancer Support provides recreational activities, emotional and professional counselling support to our families to assist with the mental health and wellbeing of our families.  Our fully self-contained unit accommodation facilities also opens up opportunities for extended family members and friends to visit and contribute love and support. Our complimentary services includes transport to and from the Queensland Children’s Hospital, airport pick-ups and shopping runs.

A gift in your Will to Childhood Cancer Support ensures that all our beautiful children living with childhood cancer and their family members can access practical support services such as their own fully self-contained unit accommodation, transport services and on-site Family Social Worker who provides personalised professional care – all free of charge to our families.
