Animal Welfare League of South Australia (AWL)

Animal Welfare League is an animal welfare organisation committed to its mission of connecting pets, people and community. Its vision is a South Australia where every pet has a loving home.

Established in 1964, AWL has a rich and proud heritage of being a haven for lost and abandoned animals. AWL services and programs help enable responsible pet ownership among South Australians, as well as provide support for pets, owners and animals in need. As a leading South Australian animal welfare organisation, AWL is a voice for the voiceless, committed to improving the lives of animals in the community.

Nearly sixty years on, AWL now has a brand-new Animal Care Centre at Wingfield with a dedicated cat adoption hub and best-practice vet facilities. This Australian-first facility offers a fear-free experience for dogs and cats, allowing potential adopters the chance to get to know the pets in the most stress-free environment possible.

Its state-of-the-art pet crematorium hosts a series of single chamber units for animals of all sizes. AWL’s facility in Edinburgh North also offers adoption services to the general public and works with councils to reunite lost and stray animals with their owners.

With the generous support of our volunteers, donors, and the wider public, AWL will continue bringing people and pets together for our community’s wellbeing for years to come.
